is a great whole class team activity producing some lovely large wall hanging when you've finished.

using sheep wool is a versatile way of including the whole class to make a art product.
This shows the children placing the pre felted wool fibres to create their chosen design based on my artwork of Stewarts flowering meadow.

The making!
We looked at Van gogh to inspire the children's wool felted sunflowers.

is important in understanding shapes and colours. We looked at garden birds and the different colours and shapes as part of a school project on Habitats.

Emmanuel Middle School said 'Nina Squire, a local artist who specialises in pastels worked with Year 6 pupils. The pupils gained from her expertise and worked alongside her to produce some stunning cat’s eyes. The children enjoyed the experience, developed their observational skills and learnt how to apply pastels more effectively'.

Painting workshops - outside!

We have been developing our talents during a special Arts Week while learning about children’s rights. Artist in Residence, Nina Squire, has taught us the skills needed to paint silk, make felt, model in clay, weave using recycled materials and print.
We have been able to take themes from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child to link to our art work - for example using the theme of water for our silk painting whilst exploring the right of children to have clean water.
All of our super artwork will be displayed around the school.
We would like to thank Nina for all her hard work and enthusiasm as well as Stewarts Garden Centre and our Friends Association who sponsored the event.

Inset training, feltmaking, Hill View Primary.
Inset can be easily worked into a day's project. Juts half an hour can make all the difference in creating confidence in using new materials.
"Thanks, Nina, it was fun and we learnt something too!"

During last year I was commissioned to work with Landmark Trust to develop a series of heritage art projects to be delivered to schools around Dorset. It was a four week project run by the Landmark Trust and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund based around the restoration of Clavell Tower in Dorset.

The project aimed to introduce children to the concept of building conservation, the history of Clavell Tower and its location within the World Heritage Site, the reasons for moving the Tower and the concept of using a location as an inspiration for art. The project was cross curricular but focused on geography, art and design, literacy and citizenship.
The schools requested the use of felt and clay. I designed a felt making project based on the children's visit to the site. The clay work developed traditional techniques so that the children could build their own Clavell Towers.

Felt is very heavy when it's wet!

The pictures looked fantastic when displayed in the school.
The Landmark Trust produced a education pack which can be downloaded here.
During 2005 I worked with Trafalgar 200 to develop a series of Art Projects about Nelson and HMS Victory. There is a site with educational art projects here based around the topic.

This shows one of the paintings that a child developed after a morning's workshop.

I've also developed work to include a current projects or reading books. One of my favourite was Elmer the Elephant, the children designed their own Elmer's and turned them into clay tiles.
Projects can also include links to modern artists like Jackson Pollock, he provided a starting point for these canvanses.
I have worked with a number of schools through DepARTure Arts , Wave Arts Education and on a freelance basis. I can either provide projects from within the DepARTure portfolio or work with a school to design one that is specific to their requests.
My daily rate includes hire of some equipment; a separate charge will be made for travel and materials.
I can develop projects that cover clay, felt making, plaster casting, observational drawing and painting.
